EP Activity This Month
Our Executive Presbyter, Ralph Hawkins, preached at Bessemer church (Aug 6) and helped celebrate the 10th anniversary of Rev. Nathan Leslie’s ministry there. Ralph will preach at Highland church (Aug 13), Enon church (Aug 20), and for Third church’s final worship service before they finish their witness and close (Aug 27). Ralph always welcomes opportunities to preach or bring greetings during a worship service, as well as opportunities to visit Session and Deacon meetings to talk ministry and mission. Schedule a Sunday or a meeting time by contacting him at 724-528-1610 or email@example.com.
Happy Birthday Synod of the Trinity!
September 17th is THE day of the first General Synod meeting in 1717. At that meeting the presbyteries of Philadelphia (formerly “The Presbytery”), New Castle, and Long Island gathered to do business, and among other things, the precursor to the Board of Pensions was formed. This year will be the 300th anniversary of the formation of the Synod of the Trinity! Since that date falls on a Sunday this year, Synod is asking that churches to participate during worship using the attached bulletin insert. There is also an opportunity for a congregation to receive a grant by participating in the celebration (details are on the bulletin insert).
September 25-26: W. Don McClure Lectures at PTS
Dr. Amos Yong, Professor of Mission and Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary, will present his reflections on the work of the Holy Spirit in mission in a pluralistic world at this FREE lecture. Dr. Yong brings a global perspective of how the Spirit has grown the number of Pentecostal believers in places like Latin America, Africa, and Asia – not to mention our own contexts. See https://www.pts.edu/McClure_2017 for more details.

News From the Churches
No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. A GriefShare seminar/support group is being hosted and sponsored by Calvin Presbyterian Church. The program will be facilitated by Ginny Brest. The first session is scheduled for Sunday, September 10 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the church parlor. The group will meet each Sunday afternoon for 13 weeks, concluding on December 3 . While participants are encouraged to complete the 13-week program if possible, attendance is not mandatory each week. The program is free and open to anyone in the community (and beyond) because we understand how deeply grief and loss hurts people and families. This is a place where many people have found they can begin to put their lives back together again. The program is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one to help them through the grief process. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from this program, please contact Ginny Brest at 724-758-3838 or the church office at 724-758-4258 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also view the GriefShare website at www.griefshare.org for additional information.
