Leadership Through the Wilderness: Navigating Uncharted Territory in Uncertain Times with Michelle Snyder.
No one needs to tell today’s leaders that these are uncertain times in the life of the church. It can sometimes feel like we are wandering around our own wilderness without clarity of direction. Using Holy Cow data maps specifically from our presbytery, we will explore potentially promising pathways for our churches, identify dead end roads, and reflect on what faithful leadership looks like when anxiety is high and the terrain is bumpy. Michelle Snyder, our leader for the retreat, will bring her therapeutic sensibilities, her consulting experience and her collection of best practice examples to what is sure to be an engaging time together.
Michelle is the senior consultant for Crow’s Feet Consulting, a consulting company specializing in building capacity in middle judicatories to strategically and systematically use organizational intelligence to create vital congregations.
Application Deadline Coming Soon!

South Sudan Hunger Offerings
Over the past two years, congregations and individuals in Shenango Presbytery have contributed over $46,000.00 to combat hunger in South Sudan. The funds have been used by our partners in SSPEC to purchase food for distribution through their congregations. Mission Co-Worker Kristi Rice has helped with the food distribution, and has written an article on her blog, with several photographs, detailing this relief effort.
The World Mission Initiative Conference, will be held at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary on April 13-14, 2018. This year’s conference will focus on the theme, “All God’s Children: Justice in God’s Mission”. Workshop leaders have been working on the front lines of mission locally and nationally. They will challenge participants to consider how they can lead congregations to respond biblically and responsibly to justice issues. Click here for more details.
Shenango Presbytery is doing a group registration for this conference for $250. There are already 6 individuals registered, so the individual cost will be less than $42. Carpooling will also be an option. To register for the group option…click on the link above, go to “Individual Registration”, then click “Register Now”. Check off that you are a church or group registration…when it asks for the name of the group, enter “Shenango Presbytery”. When it asks for the group contact, enter “David Dawson”. There is no registration fee, so do not enter your credit card information.
If you would like to attend both Friday evening and Saturday, you can call the PTS Receptionist and Event Coordinator, Lisa Bunting (firstname.lastname@example.org or 412-924-1397). She is aware that conference attendees will be reserving rooms for that weekend. You are also welcome to attend just Saturday. If you have questions about attending with the Shenango Presbytery group, you can contact Denise Scuito at email@example.com or David Dawson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
LAMBEC Capital Campaign
The Camping Association of the Presbyteries of Northwestern Pennsylvania is conducting a $100,000 capital campaign to restore the water system for Camp Lambec. The system needs a DEP-approved overhaul, and we are starting those repairs with an approved contractor. This is an expensive overhaul, but it is necessary to continue the ministry to youth and families. As such, the Board has authorized a $100K campaign to address this and other items of deferred maintenance. The Board is committed to the continued operation of Camp Lambec, as we believe firmly that this ministry provides unique and powerful discipleship opportunities for participants. Individual donations can be made online using this link. Church contributions can be coordinated through the Shenango Presbytery office.
News From the Churches
Bicentennial Celebration at Sheakleyville
Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church will celebrate their Bicentennial on Sunday, May 20th at 9:30 AM.
No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. A GriefShare seminar/support group is being hosted and sponsored by Calvin Presbyterian Church. The program will be facilitated by Ginny Brest. The first session is scheduled for Sunday, February 4 from 1:300-3:30 p.m. in the church parlor. The group will meet each Sunday afternoon (except April 1, Easter Sunday) for 13 weeks, concluding on May 6 . While participants are encouraged to complete the 13-week program if possible, attendance is not mandatory each week. The program is free and open to anyone in the community (and beyond) because we understand how deeply grief and loss hurts people and families. This is a place where many people have found they can begin to put their lives back together again. The program is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one to help them through the grief process. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from this program, please contact Ginny Brest at 724-758-3838 or the church office at 724-758-4258 or by email at email@example.com. You can also view the GriefShare website at www.griefshare.org for additional information.
