Orphan Children Trauma and Healing Center, South Sudan

Kindle Collection

Is a new Kindle on your Christmas list this year?  Maybe you’re thinking of upgrading to a new Kindle Fire in the New Year.  If so, please don’t throw your older basic Kindle model away.  The Sudan Partnership Team is collecting kindles for our Christian brothers and sisters in the Sudan.  As Rev. Tut told us in a recent letter, “I am really enjoying my kindle. It is really helpful to us and it is applicable to our situation here where there is no electricity.”  The basic Kindle has a long battery life and can hold so many books.  This, combined with the fact that books are so scarce and costly in the Sudan, makes the Kindle an excellent way to help serve our pastors in the Sudan. Please note that we can only use basic Kindle models at this time (not the Kindle Fire because the Sudan has iffy internet connections).  If you or your church is interested in this project, please contact Brenda Stelle (724) 342-7447.
Personal Help for Hurricane Sandy Victims
A group is forming to go to the east coast and help with cleaning homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy.  Please contact Sue Anne Fairman (724-946-9770 or 724-475-3031) for more information.
Stony Point Houses Those Displaced by Hurricane Sandy
Stony Point Center, a ministry of the PC(USA) located an hour north of New York City has become home, for now, for more than 100 people displaced by Hurricane Sandy.  Jean Reynolds (Third, NC) has spent a lot of volunteer time at Stony Point.  Read more of the story here.

News From The Churches

Soupfest Benefit Dinner for Santana Reithmiller on December 8, 2012 from 4-8 PM

This event is being held to assist Santana’s husband, Brandon Riethmiller with funeral and medical bills.  Brandon is a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, and the couple were without insurance at the time of Santana’s fatal accident.  Lebanon Presbyterian Church is joining with Unity in this effort, and will hold their monthly music event in the Unity Pres. fellowship hall.  There will be multiple music groups who will provide country music in a coffee shop style atmosphere as those who attend mill about sampling a wide variety of soups.  Live Country music will begin at approximately 5:00 pm.  Henry Troyer, of Lebanon Pres. will be the MC for the evening.

We are asking that folks bring a soup bowl or mug and their own spoon.  The recommended donation is $5.00, which of course does not limit those who wish to make a special gift.  Unity Pres. is located at 1857 Mercer-West Middlesex Rd., Mercer, PA, 16137.  Contact Rev. Hunt at 724-854-8022, if you wish to make a donation of a crockpot of soup or other donations as appropriate.
