Rev. Malcolm S. Vandevort, Jr., 93, honorably retired member of our Shenango Presbytery, died on Thursday after a bout with cancer. A long time Presbyterian missionary in Ethiopia, he also served several churches here in western PA and was known by many in our presbytery. One of Malcolm’s daughters is Rachel Weller, also serving in Ethiopia and, along with her husband Michael, is supported by some of our Shenango congregations. Writes Rachel,
“On Thursday, July 2,2015, four weeks shy of his 94th birthday, Dad went to meet Jesus and to claim the place prepared for him in heaven. While Dad was on this earth, he lived his with the acute knowledge that everything he did was in glory to God and for the sake of Jesus Christ – because he lives! Our sorrow is tempered with the understanding that, because Jesus lives, Dad also continues to live and enjoy God forever!”
A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at 11am this Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church Franklin, PA, where Martha Vandevort, his wife, is a member. A lunch hosted by the church will follow. All are welcome. Condolences can be sent to 722 Belmar Rd., Franklin, PA, 16323, or by email.
