Prayers

  • David Hunt’s (Unity) father passed away last week. Please keep the family in your prayers.
  • Dave Lower (Bell Memorial Church and Presbytery’s MCS Committee) has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Please keep him in your prayers and send him a card. Cards can be sent to 134 Cedar Street, Ellwood City, PA 16117.
Reminder from the Clerk about GA Overtures

Any proposed overtures for GA should be sent to Stated Clerk Jerry Mahaffey before the November 17th Presbytery Meeting.

Nominate a Youth Advisory Delegate for GA
Applications and information were mailed to the churches a few weeks ago to nominate YADs for the upcoming GA meeting. Copies of the application are available on the Presbytery website athttp://www.shenango.org/Publications/index.htm.

News from Our Churches

New Roof at Scotch Hill

The Scotch Hill Church (Grove City) has completed the replacement of their roof (with help from a Presbytery loan). They will have a dedication on November 22.

Mission Opportunity
Adam Soliz, Commissioned Lay Pastor in the Pecos Valley of New Mexico will be in our area from November 14-22. There is still some time available in Adam’s schedule – if you would like to have him speak at your church, please contact Autumn at the Presbytery Office (724-528-1610 or office@shenango.org). Also, North Liberty Presbyterian Church will be hosting a reunion for everyone who has traveled to the Pecos Valley from our Presbytery on Friday evening, November 20th at 6:00 PM. There will be a potluck dinner with a “jam” session and fellowship time to follow. Contact Autumn if you would like more information.

Jazz at First
First Presbyterian Church of Sharon is pleased to host the jazz quartet “Presbybop” on Sunday, November 15, 7:00 PM. “Presbybop” will present their new CD “Psalms Without Words” at this concert, which is free and open to the public. “Presbybop” is a professional jazz quartet (www.presbybop.com) based in northeastern PA, and led by Presbyterian pastor Rev. Bill Carter. The evening will include an intermission with coffee and desserts, and an after show reception to meet the musicians. Film to See
“Angered by white residents’ racist comments that he wouldn’t “keep up his yard,” Pearl Fryar teaches himself topiary sculpture and becomes the first African American in his Bishopville, SC neighborhood to win the coveted “yard of the month” award.” Presbyterian Media Mission presents “A Man Named Pearl” at a special event on Wednesday, November 11th at 10:30 AM at the Cranberry Theaters in Cranberry Twp. Cost per participant is $4.00 and there will be a Q&A following the showing of the film with Director, Scott Galloway (son of the former Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church Pastor John Galloway). This award-winning film can be used in your ministry for education purposes and allow for constructive conversation about racism, bigotry, discrimination and other social dynamics that we confront in people being treated without equal regard in a variety of communities across our nation and the world.

The World Mission Initiative of Pittsburgh will be holding this special workshop on Saturday, November 7th from 9 AM – 4 PM in the John Knox Room at PTS. Free registration and lunch. Crawford County Church Looking for Items
Sue Nageotte, a friend of our Presbytery, is currently serving the Harmonsburg Presbyterian Church in Crawford County. Harmonsburg’s church building was completely destroyed in an arson fire in January 2008. The rebuilding project will most likely be completed in late January, but they are in need of a few items. If your church can help to provide a small communion table, paraments, lectern, pew-chairs, folding tables, a piano, etc., please contact Sue at nageottes@gmail.com.
