News from the Presbytery Office

Website Problems
The Presbytery Office changed to a new web host last week, and we are having some publishing issues with our site. Pages are there, then they disappear. We appreciate your patience as we work through these issues.

Dave Dawson Has a New Email Address
Effective immediately, you can now e-mail Dave at david.dawson@shenango.org. Please change your address books to reflect this new e-mail address.

Churches Giving “Up” in 2009
The churches of Shenango Presbytery gave $101,522 for Presbytery mission (Camping Association, Shenango SeniorCare, variety of Presbytery programs) in 2009. This is a 14.6% increase over 2008. Thank you for your faithful support of projects designed to help all of our churches.

You Can Still Register for LeaderFest
The Presbytery Office is still accepting registrations until Friday for LeaderFest, happening on Saturday at Westminster College (walk-ins are also welcome on Saturday – you can register at the door). Registrations are $15.00 each (includes lunch).

Prayers
Doug Hughes’ (Third Church, New Castle) mother died last week. The service will be in Virginia later this week.

Treasurers Please Note:
Please make sure that all checks mailed to the Presbytery Office are made payable to “The Presbytery of Shenango”. Our banks will not accept checks made payable to “Presbyterian Mission”, “Missions of the Presbyterian Church”, or other variations that we have been receiving from numerous churches lately.

Sudan Travelers Leave on January 20…Please Pray for Them
Their visas have not come through yet (which is a regular problem with travel to the Sudan) so your prayers and those of your congregation on the Sundays of January are deeply appreciated. These folks are part of a group of 11 and they look forward to reporting back about our church partners in the Sudan. Jim Leuenberger (Bethany), Miriam Gwin (Mt. Jackson), Phyllis Buck (Jamestown), Derek Longbrake (Bell Memorial), Tom Kaufman (Third, New Castle), Betsy Barr (Mt. Jackson).

Boar’s Head Festival at First, Sharon

First Presbyterian Church, 600 East State Street, Sharon invites you to be part of their annual “Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival”. This joyous musical service celebrates the coming of Christ during the Epiphany season and is based on a festive service that dates back to the Middle Ages. It is free and open to the public and will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 3:30 PM (just after LeaderFest).

Workshops, Conferences and Local Events

Where do I find the Edith Humphrey Webinar at Westminster College?
Many of you have signed up for the Edith Humphrey webinar (free to Shenango pastors) that begins tomorrow at Westminster College. Tomorrow (January 13th) the meeting will happen in Room 213 of Old Main. Seminars on January 20 and 27 will take place in Room 210 of Old Main.

The Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. Remembered
On January 24, 2010 at the 7:00 PM Vesper Worship Service, Wallace Memorial Chapel, Westminster College will be welcoming nationally known performer, Al Staggs who will present “The Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.” The evening will begin with a wonderful musical presentation by the Westminster Gospel Choir under the direction of James “Manny” Henderson. Followed by the presentation of Al Staggs. For 20 years Mr. Staggs has been combining his gifts as a writer and performer to bring the social gospel to light by presenting 1-person plays depicting leaders from history. The community is invited.

Interested in What God is Doing in Haiti?
An open meeting will be held on Monday, January 25, from 7-9:00 PM at the Pittsburgh Presbytery Office (901 Allegheny Ave. – North Side). Come and join in the discussion — this may be the open door for you or your church to join in the mission to Haiti. Equipping Pastors Leadership Events for 2010
Many of our first-call pastors attended the 2009 Equipping Pastors Leadership Events. The 2010 events are designed to help you understand and execute a “missional community”. There will be four events in 2010, and the first will take place February 11-12 at Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock and will focus on Misisonal Leadership. Cost per event is $40.00 which includes overnight accommodation, three meals and all seminar materials. Brochures are available on the Presbytery website.

Westminster College Continuing Education Event
“The Early Church at Prayer and Worship” led by Ancient Christian Faith Initiative
Wednesdays beginning February 3, 2010. Sessions at Westminster will be from 7:00 PM -8:30 PM in Old Main Room #210 on the following 3 dates: February 3, February 24 and March 24. The other sesisons will be offered online. Contact the Presbytery Office for a brochure. Registration deadline is January 29th.
