As you may be aware, effective March 1, 2014, Dave will retire as Executive Presbyter of Shenango Presbytery. Surely, his over-20-years of ministry, service and leadership are greatly appreciated by us all.

To recognize Dave and Joan’s great contributions, the Presbytery Council is planning a celebration for Friday, February 28, 2014, beginning at 6:00 p.m. We will meet in the Witherspoon Rooms, on the third floor of the McKelvey Center of Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA (Dave is a Westminster alum) for dinner and a program.

The dinner will be catered by the Food Service of Westminster College, and will include a buffet of Chicken Sorrento, Pan-Seared Pork Tenderloin with Apples and Onions, House Salad, Oven Roasted Potatoes, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables, Coffee, Tea, or Water, and concluding, of course, with pie. The cost is $25.00 per person (make checks out to “Shenango Presbytery”).

Please respond to the Presbytery office (4197 New Castle Road, Pulaski, PA 16143 or 724-528-1610) by Monday, February 10, with your intention to be present. We ask that all payments be made by that date, as well, so that the Food Service can be good stewards of the food being prepared.

The program will feature reflections by some who have known or worked with Dave and Joan along the way, as well as a few surprises, all of which we are sure you will appreciate.

We hope that you will be able to join us to thank Dave and Joan for their faithful friendship and encouragement over the years.

Moving Forward Theological Task Force

On December 4, more than 25 Teaching Elders and CREs met at Shenango SeniorCare in New Wilmington to discuss the document: A DECLARATION OF FAITH FOR SHENANGO PRESBYTERY.  This document was produced by a team of pastors and is intended to spark theological conversation about faith and ministry in our fluctuating church context.  As we had hoped they would, a few informal groups of Teaching Elders and CREs around the presbytery are engaging the document on a regular basis.  If you would like to a part of such a group, please contact Rev. Bill Crooks at wpcrooks@yahoo.com.

Going forward, we anticipate hosting another presbytery-wide lunch sometime before Easter.  In that gathering, we will take a section of the document and open it up for group discussion.  As great energy is being poured into EP succession plans and a search process, we believe it is also important for Teaching Elders and CREs to keep up their theological functioning.  Stay tuned for more information on that gathering and other activities.

System Glitch

We attempted to email the survey (to assist Council and the EP Nominating Committee) to all elders, pastors, ministers, and CREs yesterday afternoon.  It appears we may have overloaded our email servers.   As a result, many session members have received multiple copies of the email.  Delivery to the remainder of the invitees failed.   We have submitted a support ticket to our web server, and are awaiting their reply.  We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope to have the situation figured out by Monday when we will attempt to send the survey out to those who did not receive it yesterday.   The elders who received the survey multiple times last afternoon and evening will not be included in Monday’s email.  Again, we apologize for the system glitch.
