25 Christians Killed in Cairo Demonstration…Please Pray for Egypt this Sunday

These are very difficult times for our Christian friends in Egypt.  Just last week we were blessed by a visit from Dr. Emad Philabbos who spoke in several places about the problems with church burnings.  Please click here for details and please pray for the church in Egypt this Sunday.  Presbyterian in Shenango Presbytery especially have a long history there, including with the seminary in Cairo.

Imagine What God’s Dream For the Church Is.

Come Saturday, October 22, from 9 AM to NOON, to the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church as we explore this idea.  Our guest worship leader is from a small church in Ohio, much like many of our Shenango churches.  her church is creating an environment: where all ages in the church actively interact; where local community churches work and pray together and reach out to others including non-believers in their midst; where folks are engaging with what God is about even to the ends of the earth!

In the second hour, Denise Sciuto will share a nuts and bolts workshop aimed at addressing God’s vision for YOUR church followed by an opportunity to interact with each other and representatives with displays who can help us put these ideas into action.

If you can stay for lunch, we will have opportunities to share more informally.

ALL are invited.  Bring someone from your church along.  Please RSVP to the Presbytery Office so we can have adequate seating, handouts and food for lunch.  724-528-1610 or office@shenango.org.

Please announce it in church Sunday.  Get a bulletin insert here.  Call others you think might be interested.  Invite someone to come along with you.

The Celebrate Sudan event was held at East Main Church on World Communion Sunday with approximately 140 in attendance.  Rev. Tut Kony was the speaker, reporting on the importance of the partnership of 15+ years.  The Church in the Sudan has grown from 8 to 150 pastors and is now 4 presbyteries.  Music was led by Jane Bartholomew.  Jim Leuenberger, Sudan Team leader, was moderator for a wonderful evening of reflection on our partnership with the Sudan.  Churches brought offerings for Nile Theological College which now has campuses in Khartoum and Malakal.  Contributions will continue to be received through October.  Our churches have been giving approximately $150,000 per year for Sudan-related mission.

Upcoming Events

Proposed Dismissal Policy to be previewed at a special Pre-Presbytery meeting at Westfield Church 5:00-6:15 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 27.  (View the Policy here.)  The creation of such a policy comes in response to presbytery’s action at the June meeting.  Elders, pastors, and other leaders who are especially interested in this policy by which a congregation would explore being dismissed from the PCUSA to another Reformed body are strongly encouraged to attend this special pre-presbytery event.  While the policy will be presented for a first-reading at the presbytery meeting later in the evening, the presentation there will be very brief and without discussion; thus the best opportunity to hear the rationale behind the proposed policy and to offer input will be at Westfield, beginning at 5:00 PM.
